At Preowned Gowns Boston, we love supporting local small businesses, and this week, we had a chat with someone whose business will satiate your sweet tooth. Rita Ng! The owner of Boston BonBon, is a local baker who specializes in unique macaron flavors. The best part is, they ship nationwide! You can follow Boston BonBon on Instagram at @bostonbonbon or check out their website at www.BostonBonBon.com.

Q: How did you get started with your business?

A: Growing up, I have always loved food, I love making food and entertaining! A backpack trip to Paris many moons ago definitely planted a seed of starting this business. Macarons are colorful, fun and can take on many different flavor profiles!

I have a lot of fun creating them, but we didn't start the business until we started selling our macarons at a farmers market in Hingham in 2015. That gave us the confidence boost to build our first brick-and-mortar store in Arlington in 2016! It is definitely a big step up from using a shared commercial kitchen. Our store is now in the south shore, in Cohasset, but we ship anywhere in the USA.

Q: What is your favorite thing about running your own business and being your own boss?

A: My favorite thing about running my own business has to be the freedom! It allows me to craft my own schedule so I have more free time to travel.

Q: Where do you find inspiration for new, innovative ideas to bring to your business?

A: I love travelling and that definitely gives me inspiration for a lot of new flavors. A lot of our flavors are inspired from cuisines around the world like Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Mango Lassi, Lemoncello!

Q:) What is the hardest part about having your own business?

A: The hardest part of having my own business will have to be the unpredictability of revenue flow. It is so different from a 9 to 5 fixed income lifestyle!

Q: You do amazing Wedding Favors with your macarons, and you also cater! How can people contact you if they want some of your macarons at their event?

A: People can almost order most of our items online at http://bostonbonbon.com! We are also easily reachable via email at bostonbonbon@gmail.com for any custom orders or special requests. We respond within 24 hours! We promise!

Q: Any message for people looking to get started with their own culinary business?

A: Culinary business is definitely one of the most demanding industries. So I will suggest that anybody that wants to start business in this field should really LOVE what they do! Because there will definitely be long hours, rejection and hard work along the way!

Q: Lastly, what's your favorite flavor of macaron?

A: My all time favorite has to be our Earl Grey flavor. It is our signature flavor! Our current favorite for the summer has to be Ginger Lime! Refreshing and gives you a little "zing"!

Each year in America, 14 million tons of clothing are thrown away. These clothes end up in landfills, eventually causing harm to our environment and ourselves. How can we change this? By practicing sustainable fashion.

Most of us have purchased an outfit we’ve only worn once. Especially when it comes to occasion wear. Evening gowns, bridesmaids dresses, even wedding dresses are worn once and then spend the rest of their time in the back of the closet, never to be worn again. Preowned Gowns is all about creating a marketplace for buyers who want to find the perfect dress, AND save a little money while doing so. Not only this, you get the extra bonus of knowing that you’re helping to reduce the amount of textiles that end up in our landfills each year.

Preowned Gowns is continuously on the search for beautiful designer gowns that have been gently used or discontinued from local shops. We have so many dresses for every occasion, whether it be prom, a wedding, or a night out on the town, and we’re always getting new dresses in stock that are perfect for whatever occasion you may be looking for.

Integrating sustainable fashion choices into our wardrobes is one small way to make a big difference for our planet and ourselves. What a better way to sustain fashion than to use and reuse! Preowned gowns Boston is proud to join the sustainable fashion world by providing these loved dresses as a means to reduce and reuse. We certainly hope you enjoy shopping with us!
